Have you ever wanted to add a follow me on twitter badge or box on your facebook profile? For many facebook users the idea of having a twitter badge is enticing but the steps to do it can be a bit confusing. To make it easy for you I have listed 7 simple steps to add a follow me on twitter badge or box on your facebook profile below.

Log on to facebook

Search for “extended info” in the facebook search at the top right of your facebook profile. Extended info will be the first application listed. Click on View Application to the right. You will then land on the Extended Info facebook fan page. Click on the blue Go to Application box on the top left.

You will now need to fill in some information in the Extended Info page.

Add the image url, you can create your own follow me on twitter image or you can use this one. Just open the link in a new tab or window

Copy link and past into the Image url

Add the link url, my link url is http://www.twitter.com/alanunderkofler

You can add a header or caption if you want. View my facebook profile to see how the header looks.

Dimensions: You can change this if you want buy the default is set to add the follow me on twitter badge to the left sidebar on your facebook profile

Save the changes

The Extended Info application will then ask if you want to share this with your friends. If you decide to share the news it will show up on your news feed and you may attract a few new twitter followers.

The next step is to add the badge to your profile. To do this look at the top right corner of the Extended Info Facebook Application for the blue Add to Profile box. Just click on the box, choose the Wall or Boxes tab, it will then show you where it will be placed on your facebook profile for your approval.

The final step is to click on the link and make sure it goes to your twitter account.

If you found these seven steps helpful please help other facebook users my sharing this post on your facebook wall, tweeting this post on twitter, or stumbling it on StumbleUpon. You can do this with ease by using the share this button below.

When was the last time you were on Linkedin? When I ask this question to business owners and business professionals I often times get the following answer, “I am on Linkedin, I have a profile, I accept connections every few months, but I really don’t understand it.” If this is your answer think about these 11 reasons why learning more about Linkedin would be a good idea!

With over 50 million users and the top companies and decision makers on Linkedin, why would you not be active here?

Profiles on Linkedin are made up with all types of people, top executives, middle management, sales people, business owners, consultants, and micro business. Your target customer is on Linkedin!

Companies can complete a simple informational profile but are limited to adding information only and cannot interact with Linkedin members as the company. This means on Linkedin you have the opportunity to engage real people.

You can use Linkedin to maintain top of mind awareness with your customers and prospects. Linkedin is one of my favorite tools to achieve top of mind awareness. Once setup it’s pretty simple, easy to update, and takes very little time. You just have to consistently do a few actions on Linkedin to really maximize the results. Things like status updates, updating your profile, and receiving new recommendations is all it takes.

Use Linkedin to find potential customers. Chances are very good your next big customer is already on Linkedin! Who are you trying to find, what company do you really want to land as a customer? Are you searching for a way in? Linkedin is the answer! By using Linkedin correctly you can be introduced to the person you need to meet to turn a prospect into a customer.

Use Linkedin to find your next job. Linkedin is often used to post jobs and openings. You can easily search job openings and apply for the job through Linkedin. If you are seeking a job, Linkedin is a must have tool!

Are you hiring? Linkedin is fantastic place to look for new employees for the position you cannot seem to fill. Linkedin is a powerful tool to find potential candidates for the openings at your company. You can post jobs and attract both people actively looking for a job and people who are passively looking for a job. Often times Linkedin job postings are forwarded by contacts because they think it might be a good fit. This creates a viral effect for your job postings!

Using Linkedin to network and generate referrals. Often times when I am speaking on Linkedin I am asked “how do I use it” or I” have a profile and don’t do anything with it, I am really not sure how it works”. Like anything you have to engage and participate to reap the rewards. On Linkedin the rewards are there… One way I attract more business from Linkedin is simply sending a short welcome email to all new connections requesting a 20 minute phone conversation where we can learn more about each other. This step alone generates business for me every month and also increases my referral potential on Linkedin. The more people who know about me and what I do the more referrals I attract!

What are your goals for Linkedin? Having goals gives you something to reach for! On Linkedin your goals might be to connect with more people, to recommend 5 people in your network, or to receive 5 recommendations, or simply to meet with 5 connections this month on the phone or live in person. Having a few goals for Linkedin is essential to insure you receive what you are looking for on Linkedin

Are you a local business looking for local customers or are you a national or worldwide business? Any size business can use Linkedin to effectively grow.

Linkedin Answers is a powerful resource for any business or professional. What do you need help with? Are you deciding between two software products for your business? Are you looking for the best email service for your company or personal newsletter? All of these questions can be asked on Linkedin and within minutes you will start receiving answers to help you make a good decision or direct you to a good solution.

Do you have suggestions on how to receive business on Linkedin or a great strategy you use on Linkedin? Take a moment and leave your favorite Linkedin tip or suggestions by leaving a comment.

Need help maximizing Linkedin for your business? Find out more about Linkedin and how to maximize if for your business with our 55 minute audio guide, The Roadmap to Using Linkedin to Grow Your Business.

It might be hard to believe but many business owners still have the impression twitter is just a waste of time. They truly don’t understand how using twitter will have a positive impact on their business. So the question you may be asking yourself is, how you start attracting new customers and prospects from twitter? The answer is my building relationships! It all starts with building relationships and on twitter there are a few different stages.

Casual conversations – Casual conversations on twitter start by just responding to the tweets from the people you are following. You might respond to a question or make a remark about the tweet or possibly re-tweet something you liked. All of these actions start a conversation and raise the awareness of the person you are engaging. Over time your relationship will progress and parts of the conversation may take place through direct messages.

Direct Messages – Through direct messages or DM’s you can engage one of your followers in a private conversation. In order to do this the person you are following needs to be following you back and most likely this has already happened from the casual conversations. Direct messages allow you to have a one on one private conversation with the people you are following on twitter allowing you to take the relationship one step further. At some point these DM’s will lead to the need or desire to have an actual phone conversation to explore additional projects, possibilities, or needs.

Phone Conversations – I am assuming you know how to use this! If you have been on twitter for a long time you may need to freshen up on your phone skills i.e. talk in full sentences beyond 140 characters! (it will be ok) Phone conversations allow you to explore all types of possibilities.

Meeting face to face – Eventually someone you have been tweeting for months or even years will be in the same city or the same conference you are attending. This is a great opportunity to take your twitter relationship to an actual live in person environment! Many people I have formed relationships with on twitter feel like best friends, great clients, or huge contributors to my business.

At any stage you may acquire a new customer, prospect, referral partner, vendor, advocate, or friend. I have had all of these relationships happen in each of the four relationship stages on twitter. I would like to give credit to Delores Williams who stated me thinking about the four stages of the twitter relationship by mentioning it on Twitter Talk Radio with Angie A. Swartz.

Remember twitter is similar to any network. People do business with people they know, like, and trust. You can create know, like, and trust on twitter just like you can at a business network, association, Chamber of Commerce, church, or club. If I still have not convince you to start using twitter in your business read 7,11, OK How about 11 Top Reasons Twitter is a Must Have for Your Business.

When working with our Social Media Marketing clients at Square Martini Media we often discuss all current advertising methods and create ways to pull them together. By linking different audiences or fans across multiple media platforms you create a synergy in your marketing efforts and increase the overall impact. This is a major part in our clients marketing and Social Media strategy and should be included in yours.

You can learn more about the Trident Ad and how they showed testimonials from Twitter by reading: Trident Gum Turns Fan Tweets into Full-Page USA Today Ad, written by Jennifer Van Grove. Learn more about Tridents Layers and what all the fuss is about by reading Trident Green Apple Golden Pineapple Layers Gum or just pick up a pack the next time you are checking out of the grocery store.

The question you should be asking yourself is how you or your company can leverage your Social Media marketing efforts with the traditional advertising you are currently doing?

Web – 20.74% – The web means just using twitter.com to send twitter messages.

TweetDeck – 13.73% – TweetDeck is the most popular client for twitter and also connects to your Facebook, Linkedin, and MySpace accounts. TweetDeck allows you to create groups with the people you are following on twitter.

Tweetie – 9.37% – Tweetie is the most used twitter client for the iPhone. I have been using Tweetie for the last year and highly recommend it after testing many of the other iPhone twitter applications.

Twitterfeed – 4.50% – Twitterfeed is a simple twitter client designed to push RSS Feeds to your twitter account. It’s used mostly for pushing your blog posts to your twitter profile automatically.

Seesmic - 3.94% – Seesmic is very similar to TweetDeck, you can create groups as well as post to your facebook account. I use Seesmic for most of my tweeting activity.

Echofon – 2.94% – Echofon isa family of Twitter apps. Previously Echofon for iPhone was called TwitterFon and Echofon for Firefox was called TwitterFox.

HootSuite – 2.85% – Is a dynamic application similar to TweetDeck and Seesmic with additional features like scheduled tweets, tabbed layouts, and tracking statistics.

Square Martini Media is committed to sharing Social Media success stories to provide insight on what Social Media can do for your business. Today we will discuss the Social Media strategy for The Coffee Groundz a small business in Houston, TX.

The Coffee Groundz Background
Coffee Groundz is not your typical coffee shop! It was started to fill a niche; serve great coffee and tea, cold beverages, and spirits! Coffee Groundz also provides free wifi and is work friendly with outlets and at every seat as well as outside on the patio. Sounds like a great place to visit!

How it Started
How is this small independent coffee shop using twitter to attract more clients and create stronger relationships with their customers? Like many businesses first venturing into Social Media for their business J.R. Cohen the manager of Coffee Groundz started out with listening, “I spent the first hour just looking at it wondering what to do”. The next day J.R. started following local Houston twitter users as @coffeegroundz and engaged them in conversation. J.R. would encourage his followers to stop by Coffee Groundz and ask for him by name. When customers arrived from twitter J.R. would greet each them, building on the relationship.

The Success Story
The Social Media ROI (return on investment) for The Coffee Groudz is tremendous. J.R. estimates within three months sales doubled because of twitter. This happened by engaging the local twitter community and listening to what customers were saying. J.R. often talks about twitter to go customer Sean Stoner @maslowbeer on twitter. Sean requested his breakfast order on twitter hoping to get in and out of the coffee shop faster. J.R. was listening and responded with “Wi. What do you want on it?” This created a huge response from the Coffee Groundz twitter community. It turns out many customers wanted to order via twitter and @coffeegroundz welcomed them!

The twitter Impact Continues
Coffee Groundz and taken twitter a few steps further by hosting live twitter events called tweetups at their location. It’s not surprising when you have 100 twitter people at your location they do more than just tweet! They buy coffee, drinks, and food! And more importantly these events attract new customers to experience Coffee Groundz.

Hosting events have always been a great way to increase sales for restaurants, bars, and clubs. By creating such an impact with twitter Coffee Groundz seems to be attracting additional events to it’s location. Just this week Hallmark Mobile Greetings hosted a live event at Coffee Groundz to show customers how their mobile greetings application worked. The tweet sent out buy @coffeegroundz “Free coffee and free dessert here thanks to #hallmarkmobile come by and say hi.” This Social Media Strategy works for Coffee Groudz as it attracts new customers. Hallmark Mobile wins by tapping into the digital and Social Media customers that frequent Coffee Groudz. Brilliant!

One of the great things about Social Media is the many additional tools you can use. There are so many Social Media tools available now and new ones coming online everyday no one could never try them all! One of these great tools I have really enjoyed using lately is TweetChat. I have used it for Gravity Summit, The Cool Twitter Conferences, and the San Diego Twestival and TweetUp events. So what are the Top 7 Reasons?

Simple - Just go to tweetchat log in with your twitter account, type in the hashtag (#) or phase you want to follow, and the tweets start coming in. Another great benefit is you can log in as yourself or any other twitter account! This is great if you have a personal twitter account as well as a business twitter account.

Automatically Updates – If you have ever tried to follow a trend with twitter search you know how this is tough to manage. On one side you have your twitter account up and the other side your have search.twitter.com . With tweetchat it’s all in one place, you are following the stream and it’s auto updating all in one place

Easy to Reply – Reply right from tweetchat without leaving tweetchat, reply, send, and continue reading the conversation. Each reply will automatically have the hashtag added.

Smart Pausing – Tweetchat has a great feature called smart pausing. Basically when you scroll down it stops refreshing which allows you to find what you are looking for and reply or retweet the information without losing it.

Retweet - Part of being part of any conversation on twitter is to RT what others are saying. Highlighting great tweets or something you may have missed. Tweetchat allows you to RT with Ease, with a button right next to the tweets you can easily RT, add something to the tweet and send. The hashtag is automatically added.

User Control – Cool feature that allows you to block or feature people within the tweetchat stream. So if someone in the conversation is not making any since or is offensive you can remove them from your tweetchat stream, conversely if someone is tweeting great things and you don’t want to miss them you can highlight their tweets.

Chat Room Feature – Tweetchat was designed to work like a chat room within twitter. You can crate a room based on any subject or trending topic on twitter and every post you send within tweetchat is pushed to twitter.

Tweetchat has received some negative reviews regarding it’s original intent. Some have even posed the question: Is tweetchat the death of twitter? The tool is designed to work like a chat room where you can have a topic to discuss and chat with the other members in the room. It works great for this but turns twitter into something many users don’t like. For instance if you are following one or two of the people in the room you will see their tweets and not really understand what they are talking about as you are only seeing part of the conversation. I have to agree with many others that using tweetchat as a chat room is a bad idea! But like many bad ideas and applications that are created users have a way of taking a bad idea or application and using it for something great. I think tweetchat is best for following twitter trends, following events remotely, and following the discussion at live events.

So when you find yourself sitting at Blogworld, The 140 Conference, or your next big industry show pull out your laptop, log into tweetchat, and join the conversation!

One of the many questions we hear at Square Martini Media during our initial Social Media strategy discussions is “does Social Media really work to increase business?”. With this question in mind we will now start posting Social Media case studies and success stories more often on Square Martini Media. You can see a few of our past stories by reviewing the Twitter Talk Radio posts.

Our first case study involves using twitter to attract new customers, engage current customers, and increase sales.

Naked Pizza Background
Naked Pizza a New Orleans pizza takeout and delivery restaurant with a mission to make an unhealthy and popular fast food healthier, more nutritious, and better tasting!

How it Started
So how does one restaurant leverage twitter to make a substantial difference? Let’s start from the beginning… Naked Pizza was founded in late 2006. In March of 2009 Mark Cuban, tech billionaire, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, and early investor in the company, advised Jeff Leach one of the co-founders of Naked Pizza to sign up for a twitter account. Jeff’s idea was to create a local tribe or community around healthy eating while saving money on marketing costs with the goal of increasing sales. In the pizza industry one of the main ways to market is through direct mail which can be very expensive with poor results. Another option is through opt-in newsletters. Buying a list of names is costly and the open rates are beginning to look like direct mail. (well maybe not that bad but, but low enough to not be considered a success)

The Success Story
So what is the ROI for Naked Pizza using twitter? Well the company’s first twitter only promotion on April 23 resulted in 15% of total sales, with 90% of those being NEW CUSTOMERS! On May 29 twitter set a store sales record with the bulk of the traffic coming directly from twitter. How much? 68.60% of the total sales came from customers who stated “I’m calling from twitter”!

The twitter Impact Continues

Twitter has made such a difference for Naked Pizza that they removed the “call for delivery” billboard in front of the restaurant and changed it to “twitter – follow us for specials – www.twitter.com/nakedpizza”

Naked Pizza also added a kiosk in the store inviting customers to sign up for a twitter account and follow them on twitter.

Tracking twitter is so important to Naked Pizza that they have added a button in the point of sale system to make it easy for employees to track.

With these results it’s pretty easy to say: YES, Social Media and twitter can make a difference for your business!
