I agree with Global Patriot… face-to-face networking is still incredibly important! I just finished reading a book titled, “Networking Like a Pro: Turning Contacts Into Connections,” by Dr. Ivan Misner, and the author really kept reiterating how important face-to-face networking really is. It also pointed out some really great face-to-face techniques that anyone wanting to increase their business should know.

Even with all the social media technology at our disposal, face-to-face meetings are, in my view, the pinnacle of networking and forging long term relationships. The beauty of Twitter (or even Facebook) is that much of the groundwork can be laid ahead of time.

On those occasions where connecting on Twitter was followed by meeting in person it seemed like I was talking to an old friend. I knew what movie they had seen or book they were reading, I might even know what wine they liked to drink. And that instant familiarity allowed that first meeting to be far more productive that if we had never connected via social media.
